There is an emerging clinical need for a cost-effective, robust, and highly sensitive point-of-care test platform that allows fast and reliable assessment of patients. Our lab focuses on enhancing fluorescence from a traditional sandwich immunoassay engineered on a nanometer thin non-fouling polymer (POEGMA) to enable picomolar detection of heart failure biomarkers. Integration of colloidal silver nanocubes (SNC) with D4 assay enables large electric field enhancements in individual nanocavities. Our vision is to create a low-cost, scalable and reliable POCT that outperforms the current gold standard of laboratory diagnostics, —the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
